Training Through Community Colleges

Industrial Truck Safety is now partnering with community colleges in the Texas area to deliver both our Professional Forklift Operator Safety Program and our Forklift Safety Instructor Training Program in a convenient and familiar environment.

By attending these classes on campus, forklift operators or prospective operators who have not yet been hired can complete the majority of their OSHA-required training, leaving only hands-on evaluation to be completed once they are placed on a jobsite - a definite plus on a resume for those seeking employment in this industry.

Our 8-hour Professional Forklift Operator's Safety Training and our 2-day Forklift Safety Instructor Training will help you or your business organization meet all your OSHA-regulated safety requirements and create a safer workplace.

We are currently offering both programs at the following Community Colleges:

Collin County Community College

The FORKLIFT SAFETY INSTRUCTOR TRAINING course

This intensive 16-hour course is a complete solution for the company that needs to train individuals as on-site Forklift Safety Instructors. Aside from teaching the participant all the information necessary to conduct his or her own Forklift Operator Safety Course, we will also cover subjects such as:

  • OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.178 in its entirety.
  • The importance of a professionally and properly instituted safety program.
  • Liability.
  • Proper classroom training techniques and personal teaching style.
  • Accident and incident investigation and response.
  • Promoting communication about safety from workers and management.
  • Safety training's impact on profitability.
  • Reports, audits, training documentation and ongoing reporting.

Each participant will receive an entire catalog of materials and tools along with training, including a CD-ROM filled with useful forms, reports, training materials, presentations, trade-related articles and weblinks that will asist in establishing an ongoing safety program at his or her company. All students completing this class will also have lifetime access to all resources provided by Industrial Truck Safety, including free advice and consultation from our instructors.

The PROFESSIONAL FORKLIFT OPERATOR'S SAFETY TRAINING course

This 8-hour training specifically designed for operators of all 7 classes of foklifts is a much more robust course than our standard on-site operator's class. In this all-classroom instruction, we will train and test each operator on:

  • All seven classes of forklifts and their specific requirements for safe operation.
  • OSHA regulations and standards and their importance.
  • Stability of industrial trucks during operation.
  • Accident and tip-over prevention.
  • Working with loads safely.
  • Preventative maintenance and regular inspection to reduce accidents and equipment costs.
  • Proper procedures for handling propane tanks, batteries, and fuel for forklifts.

By OSHA standards, each operator will need to be evaluated operating equipment in his or her own workplace by a knowledgeable professional following the classroom instruction. Industrial Truck Safety will provide your company with all instructions and paperwork for this evaluation, or can be hired to conduct this evaluation directly in order to complete safety certification of your operator(s) following the class training. After certification is complete, Industrial Truck safety will issue each operator a Certificate of Completion along with a Wallet Certification Card as proof of compliance with OSHA's standards for safety training every 36 months.

Each company, upon final certification completion will also receive all related information and testing results from each operator to file as proof of training. Aside from the materials recieved by the students, their companies will receive Certificates of Completion, copies of the materials used for training, test results for each operator, and a library of audits, forms and procedures to use for ongoing safe forklift operation. These records will aid in future discussions and audits with insurance carriers, OSHA inspectors or any other legal body that may require proof of a compnay's efforts to provide a safe work environment.
